Secret Season Autumn in Saalfelden Leogang

Out into the golden nature, into the cozy SPAs

There are many good reasons to spend your vacation in Saalfelden Leogang. Perhaps even a few more in the autumn. Because the golden season here is ideal for outdoor activities, relaxing wellness treatments and people who want something delicious on their plate at all times. There are also insider autumn tips to try out, such as starry nights under the open sky, a sunset hike or a saffron gin made from real Leogang saffron.

Extended vacation fun for hikers and bikers
Whether on foot or on the bike saddle - Saalfelden Leogang keeps vacationers on the move in autumn too. Either on an idyllic hike through the colorful mountain world or with lots of action in the Bikepark Leogang, with its lines and trails down the slopes. Because the Leogang cable cars run continuously throughout the fall until the start of the ski season, they take guests to their destination at any time: for example to the new forest bathing trail on the Asitz or to the nature cinema and the TONspur islands. Good to know: Two ascents and descents per person per day are included with the Saalfelden Leogang Card until the start of the ski season. The Epic Bikepark with its 30,000 square meter practice area “Riders Playground” is open until November 3rd.

If you want to explore the beautiful landscape on a road trip in an electric car, you can do so in a relaxed manner. There are 20 charging stations for e-vehicles in the Asitz and Steinbergbahn parking lots alone, including two fast chargers. There are also plenty of other charging stations in the Saalfelden Leogang region. Traveling to Saalfelden Leogang by train is also very convenient, saving time and nerves.

Insider tips: Walk under the stars and hike into the sunset
Saalfelden Leogang stands for special moments: some of these can be experienced, for example, during the sunset hike to the hermitage, one of the last inhabited hermitages in Europe. Hike into the glorious sunset against a breathtaking backdrop. Another beautiful tour is the medicinal plant hike (possible until the beginning of November). Participants are sure to get some good advice on how to stay healthy during the approaching cold winter months. Tip: the guided tours are even included with the Saalfelden Leogang Card. Both take place as part of the weekly adventure program “365 Days Active & Creative”.

As beautiful as Saalfelden Leogang is during the day, it is just as exciting at night: because on clear nights, there is a wonderful view of the starry sky - thanks to the low light pollution.

If you are looking for an unusual souvenir: Saalfelden Leogang has recently started growing high-quality organic saffron. The first regional saffron gin is already on the market (Stockis Mountain Distillery). For real gourmets, there is even a culinary e-bike pleasure tour. Here you can cycle from direct marketer to direct marketer and taste homemade products in the many farm stores.

Guaranteed enjoyment: cheers to the Pinzgau cuisine
Nobody goes to (hotel) bed with a growling stomach in Saalfelden Leogang. The Pinzgau cuisine is too tasty and hearty for that. Only good things are guaranteed on the table here: around 70 percent of all farms in Saalfelden Leogang are organic and can be recognized at a glance thanks to the “ECHT.GSUND.GUAD.” seal of quality. The local direct marketers also supply the region's award-winning toque-awarded restaurants - 14 toques from Gault&Millau are spread across five restaurants. Whether it's on farmed alpine pastures and huts, in a mountain restaurant or in a gourmet kitchen - in Saalfelden Leogang it simply tastes “guad (good)”.

First-class wellness hotels: Switch into feel-good mode
Anyone who has hiked diligently through the mountains deserves to relax in the evening - or even for a whole day - in one of the modern SPAs in the region's beautiful wellness hotels. These are the perfect places to switch into feel-good mode: Because especially in the fall, stepping into a heated sauna is a real reward. It's best to treat yourself to a soothing wellness treatment such as a fragrant herbal bath or a massage. Ayurveda or yoga in nature are also on offer. No matter what you choose, everyone will feel relaxed and re-energized.

Falstaff's new Hotel Guide 2024 shows just how high the quality of wellness hotels is: the Naturhotel Forsthofgut is ranked second in Austria with 100 out of 100 points, and operators Christoph and Christina Schmuck were also voted Hoteliers of the Year. Furthermore, the Hotel Krallerhof was awarded for the best spa in Austria. With the Hotel Forsthofgut, the Hotel Krallerhof, the Eco Premium Resort Priesteregg, the Hotel Puradies and the Hotel Riederalm 5 Leogang establishments are listed among the TOP 10 in Salzburg.
