BIKE FESTIVAL SAALFELDEN LEOGANG celebrates premiere

From 31 August to 2 September, Saalfelden Leogang will host the premiere of the Austrian stop of the renowned BIKE Festival.

In addition to the opportunity to test next year's models and new products on the market with over 100 exhibitors in the large expo area, as well as numerous side events, there will also be a number of competitions for participants. The highlight is the Rocky Mountain Bike Marathon on Sunday, 2 September.

For the first time, the mountain bike scene can look forward to a third BIKE Festival in autumn after Riva and Willingen, as the Austrian premiere in Saalfelden Leogang, from 31 August to 2 September 2018, will complement the well-known series of events this year. In addition to a large bike expo, where visitors will have the opportunity to test the new 2019 models free of charge, the festival programme will feature numerous top-class side events for young and old over three days. As usual, a number of competitions will also round off the programme: In addition to the SCOTT Enduro Series, the finale of the Austrian Pumptrack Series and the SCOTT Junior Trophy, the Rocky Mountain BIKE Marathon will also be the sporting highlight of the BIKE Festival in Saalfelden Leogang.

The starting shot for the supreme discipline will be fired on Sunday, 2 September at 7.30 am in the event area at the Asitz valley station in Leogang. Marathon participants can choose between three distances. The most challenging route is the long version with an altitude difference of 3600 metres spread over 97 kilometres. Here, some of the region's most popular mountain bike routes can be tackled in concentrated form: From Leogang, the route runs via Sonnberg and Ullachtal to Saalfelden, from there via Kronreith to Maria Alm and via Bsuch to Ritzensee. Then the Biberg awaits, from where you return to the Großer Asitz via the Panoramaweg. Finally, the long distance is spiced up with a detour to the natural jewel of the Schwarzleotal and the Spielbergalmen. And it wouldn't be a marathon in the trail paradise of Saalfelden Leogang if some of the most beautiful single trails weren't at the centre of the long distance: the new Matzalm trail is also on the programme here, as is the well-known Hangman2 from the Asitz, which was also part of the BIKE Transalp. On the medium distance, participants have to cover 74 kilometres and 2700 metres in altitude. And the short distance also demands a lot from the participants: 57 kilometres and 1400 metres in altitude are on the agenda for the "Shorty" in Saalfelden Leogang.

Marathon series for the first time

The premiere in Saalfelden Leogang has a very special role to play in the big Rocky Mountainbike BIKE Marathons, as it is the finale of the newly created marathon series. The results from Riva and Willingen and, of course, the third stage in Saalfelden Leogang count towards the overall victory.
