Special exhibition mine Leogang SLCard
“Glück auf” in Leogang
Leogang is one of the oldest mining sites in Salzburg – more than 3,000 years ago, the Celts were already mining ores here. Today, visitors can embark on a journey into the past through the medieval tunnels.
In the Schwarzleo Valley, one of four mining areas in Leogang, the show mine serves as a reminder of a rich mining history that significantly shaped the region until the 20th century. Whether silver, lead, mercury, copper, nickel, or cobalt – the ores once extracted here were considered of the highest quality, leading to the minting of the famous Salzburg silver coin, the “Rübentaler.” Today, visitors can explore the Barbara Tunnel, named after the patron saint of miners, at the show mine.
Well-trained guides lead visitors on foot through the branched tunnel systems. Whether before or after a visit to the Barbara Tunnel, the Unterberghaus invites guests to enjoy Pinzgau delicacies and Austrian specialties, all in a cozy atmosphere. There’s also a highlight for the little ones: a spacious adventure playground.
At www.schaubergwerk-leogang.com, you can also find a virtual tour of the tunnel, allowing you to explore the depths of the mountain from the comfort of your home.
In winter, you can hike to the Unterberghaus and enjoy the idyllic winter nature of the Schwarzleotal. Carriage rides are also available.
Here in Leogang, the past comes alive again – we look forward to welcoming you!
