Made in Saalfelden: Shake Stew, "the international figurehead of the young Austrian jazz scene" (ORF), began in 2016 as a commissioned work by bassist Lukas Kranzelbinder for our jazz festival. Dressed in gold and black band and with two bassists and drummers each plus three horns, the band was feted by The Guardian, The Wire, Mojo or Die Zeit and not only won the "German Jazz Award" as "Band of the Year - International" in 2021, but even the "Amadeus" in its home country in 2023. In the new ORF culture documentary "Shake Stew – Jazz for All", filmmakers Siegfried Steinlechner and Dietmar Petschl accompany the sensational septet at concerts in Austria and abroad and explore their approach and the motivation of the band members.
