The composing vibraphonist and marimba player from Veracruz, Mexico, a charter member of the New York scene and a guest in Saalfelden last year with Sylvie Courvoisier's "Chimaera“, made it onto numerous best-of lists – from the New York Times to Downbeat to Jazz Thing – with her 2024 septet album "Breaking Stretch". Released on her colleague Kris Davis' label Pyroclastic, the album marks the pinnacle of a career that has seen the 38-year-old play alongside Mary Halvorson, Vijay Iyer, Wadada Leo Smith, and in Michael Formanek's ensemble Kolossus. Inspired by her parents' early musical education in Mexico, card games with her grandmother, or the oldest star in our galaxy, Brennan's music elegantly walks a fine line between intellectual and rhythmic complexity and melodically beautiful emotional worlds.
