A lot has happened in the five years since Berlin-based Swedish bassist Petter Eldh presented his quintet Koma Saxo for the first time on our main stage in Saalfelden. The electrifying energy of the acoustic ensemble has now developed via a reincarnation called “Koma West” into the “culmination of Eldh's sound study, as the band-info describes it. “Post Koma”, which is “dynamite” according to allaboutjazz, presents vocalist Sofia Jernberg, pianist and keyboardist Kaja Draksler and drummer Lukas König alongside Eldh’s longtime Saxo-companion Jonas Kullhammar. All of this has little to do with a “deep state of prolonged unconsciousness", but rather with a “music vision that never second-guesses throwing tasty hooks and everlasting melodies out the window after a mere bite of them".
