As the improvising “Mister 20,000 Volts”, artist in residence Chris Janka will turn his guitar into an active altar for Wendy Carlos in this lightning-electrified solo program. Known to music researchers as an electronic music pioneer, she became a superstar at the end of the 1960s with her synthetic classical album “Switched on Bach”, followed by music for the soundtracks of “Clockwork Orange”, “Shining” and “Tron”. In Carlos' octave-free alpha tuning, which offers perfect fifths and minor thirds, Janka drones and plays himself and us through space and time. The high-voltage transformer not only provides for rising lightning, but also functions as a guitar sound carrier and producer of terrifying noises. Dramatic, in the cinematic sense.
