Sun Mi Hong from Incheon in South Korea studied jazz at the Amsterdam Conservatory and is now firmly established in the exciting scene in the Netherlands – and beyond: she recently performed at the Berlin Jazz Festival. Shortly before the release of the fourth album under her own name (as a sidewoman you would have to add at least a zero), the drummer is bringing her international quintet, which has existed for seven years, to Saalfelden. As is often the case with drummers, her melodies are at least equal to her rhythmic power. " The Quintet walks the line between elaborate composition and the great void that is improvised music," states the announcement of the new album, her second for the British label Edition.
