In addition to the long and half marathon distances, the youngsters also get their big show at the cross-country skiing festival.
At the beginning of February, one of Austria's biggest cross-country skiing events will once again transform Saalfelden Leogang into a hotspot for the national and international scene. The Saalfelden Ski Marathon will be held for the 12th time on Sunday 3 February in the Nordic stronghold of the Pinzgau region. The Pinzgau cross-country skiing event is part of the "Austria Loppet" race series and thus joins the ranks of renowned Austrian cross-country skiing events such as the Koasa or Ganghoferlauf. A tight race schedule awaits the participants from 15 nations: After the mass start at 10.30 a.m. in the Saalfelden district of Ramseiden, they have to tackle 42 kilometres on the Ramseider, Klingler and Schneggen trails using the free technique.
As a team or over half the distance
In addition to the marathon and half marathon distance of 21 kilometres, there is once again a team classification for all team players this year, in which three runners can join forces. After the last runner crosses the finish line, the average of all three times is calculated and used for the classification.
Youngsters on track at the mini ski marathon
The day before, on Saturday 2 February, the local cross-country skiing youngsters will be competing in Saalfelden Leogang. At 1.30 pm, the starters in the children's and school classes will set off on the two, four or six kilometre race course in a mass start. A finisher's medal and various prizes await the young competitors at the finish line. The mini ski marathon is also part of the "SPORT GROSSEGGER" district cup
