The participants in three different categories (21 km, 42 km and the team competition) started punctually at 10.30 am in the mass start in the Saalfelden district of Ramseiden. The route between Maria Alm and Saalfelden pushed everyone to their limits despite the perfect conditions.
A week before the international event, 100 participants had already registered online. A total of 77 children took part on Saturday and 240 adults from 19 nations on Sunday. The professional and amateur athletes came from Germany, Austria, Finland, Ireland, Russia, USA, Spain, Norway, Czech Republic, Brazil, etc.
Peter Brunner from Tyrol won the 21 kilometre half marathon and Victoria Carl from Germany won the women's race. The day's winner in the 42 kilometre (marathon) category was Urban Lentsch from Tyrol and Liudmila Uzick from Russia in the women's category. Despite a broken stick, Lentsch was able to impress and took the victory. The 21-year-old is delighted: "It was simply "cool". We were a very strong group and I fought until the end. I put all my energy into the final sprint and took 1st place!"
Marco Pointner, Managing Director of Saalfelden Leogang Touristik, was at the start himself this year and completed the 21km course. Pointner commented: "We are delighted that the 9th Saalfelden Ski Marathon could take place after a two-year break. With this event, we have once again demonstrated the Nordic expertise of the Saalfelden Leogang region. Participants from over 19 nations are a confirmation of the commitment of all those involved, who deserve special thanks."
We congratulate the winners and thank all participants and sponsors for the great organisation of the competition weekend!
