7th Nostalgia Ski World Championships in Saalfelden Leogang
The seventh Nostalgia Ski World Championships took place in Saalfelden Leogang from 15 to 17 January 2016. Due to the lack of snow in recent weeks, the long-distance run from Asitz to Leogang could not be organised. Instead, a giant slalom was organised in two runs on the Schantei. Over 250 enthusiastic racers from 6 nations came to Saalfelden Leogang in their grandparents' sporting gear. This year, the ANNO 1900 association came up with something very special for the equipment judging: the age categories of the skis were separated more clearly to make the judging fair. This year, for the first time, there was a "premier class" (category 1). This class skis on ski models that were used before 1935. Back then, skis were made entirely of wood without a steel ski edge. Skiers using skis with an original design dating back to 1960 started in category 2 - called "Kandahar". The "most modern oldies" are skiers with skis, bindings and boots of category 3 with their origins up to 1970.
Some risky manoeuvres and action-packed crashes made the 7th Nostalgia Ski World Championships a real experience once again. In two competitions, men and women were separated by category and judged according to their overall time. In the end, 6 world champions from 3 nations were celebrated.
