Today the team, with Red Bull Salzburg striker Hee-chan Hwang, takes off for Russia.
World Cup participants and East Asian champions South Korea were among the top teams holding their training camp in the Salzburg regions from 3 to 12 June. Germany's last group opponents pitched their tents in Saalfelden Leogang. The Taeguk Warriors were accompanied by almost 50 South Korean journalists who, in addition to reporting on their team's preparations, were also able to experience a great deal about the region: "South Korea is the fastest growing market in Asia after China. With the national team's ten-day training camp, which was accompanied by a high level of media attention in the South Korean media, we were able to show above all that we can score points in the region with the Koreans' main reasons for travelling - culture, outdoor and wellness. We now wish the South Korean team all the best for the upcoming World Cup," says Marco Pointner, Managing Director of Saalfelden Leogang Touristik.
Two friendly matches accompanied the training camp in Saalfelden Leogang
South Korea are in a strong Group F with world champions Germany, Sweden and Mexico. The two preparation matches in Innsbruck, which ended with a 0:0 draw against Bolivia, and the final test in Grödig against Senegal (0:2) were disappointing for the team led by ex-Leverkusen player Heung-min Son and Red Bull Salzburg striker Hee-chan Hwang. In six days' time, the South Koreans will play their first World Cup preliminary round match against Sweden in Nizhny Novgorod.
