Knappschaft Leogang von Saalfelden Leogang Touristik GmbH honoured for special services

Over the past year, the employees of Knappschaft Leogang worked hard to make the history of mining in the show mine in the Schwarzleo Valley even more attractive.

Saalfelden Leogang Touristik GmbH honored this special merit in the field of tourism and recently presented the Tourism Award 2021 at the Congress Saalfelden.

The Tourism Prize of Saalfelden Leogang Tourismik GmbH is awarded annually to institutions, associations or individuals who have made a merit with special commitment and personal commitment in tourism. Behind the scarcity of Leogang lies an eventful year with such a special commitment. A major project was and still is the digitization offensive “Barrier-Free Show Mine”. In 2021, the interior of the historic mining quarters Barbara, Daniel and Maria were surveyed and digitized using state-of-the-art laser technology and cameras. As a result, the show mine has been accessible virtually since this year (“Virtual 3D tour” at schauberg-leogang.com).

A major development, which Saalfelden Leogang Touristik GmbH recently honored with the Tourism Award. For Sigmund Riedlsperger, Chairman of Knappschaft Leogang, however, it is more than just an award: “A total of 20 members were involved last year together with Geo-Interweissacher and the municipality of Leogang – the project was also generously funded by the State of Salzburg. For us, the award is also a confirmation of our work. However, this does not mean that we are sitting back now. It is also an assignment to remain committed. We will continue to push forward the digitization project over the winter and I am sure that we will have a lot on our feet again next season.”

No standstill on the shortage Leogang

In addition to the digitalization project, even more has happened during the Leogang 2021 shortage. For example, some conversion and extension work around the show mine and the Knappenstube were on the agenda for the employees. Immediately in front of the Erasmus Stollen, the foundations of an old blacksmith were exposed and a mouthhole that had collapsed was built. A new mine railway expanded the range in the Schwarzleotal last year. Also new are multilingual audio guides for guided tours of the Leogang show mine, improved and enhanced display panels and an info screen where 3D models, information on minerals and ore processing explain the history of the former miner's life. This screen has recently been found at the valley station Asitz - a great volunteer effort, which will not end with the shortage of Leogang in the coming year.
