Mountains in flames in Saalfelden Leogang

When the mystical fairy lights of small fireplaces light up the mountain peaks in Saalfelden Leogang after dark, it's time for the shortest night of the year: Solstice Night.

A traditional custom from the 14th century that lights up the mountain ranges of the Pinzgau every year at the astronomical start of summer. According to popular belief, the solstice fires were supposed to ward off evil demons responsible for illness, damage to livestock or hail. Countless bonfires in the Leogang Steinberge mountains and the Steinernes Meer are lit on 18 June 2016 and conjure up a unique mystical glow in the night.

Saalfelden also ignites guests and locals with a festival at the picturesque Ritzensee lake. The Eisenbahner Stadtkapelle will provide an exuberant atmosphere on Saturday (18 June) from 18:00. From the Steinernes Meer, a giant edelweiss, set out with torches, sends a "glowing floral greeting" into the valley from around 10.00 pm and makes for great moments.
Admission free! The event only takes place in good weather.

Leogang invites you to a festive mountain bonfire on the Asitz on Saturday (18 June). Countless mountain fires can be seen in a 360° radius from the summit in the dark. From 5.00 pm you can take the Asitz cable car to the mountain station, the cost is € 13,-- for the ascent and subsequent descent. Children up to 15 years ride for free! For the hike from the mountain station (1,760m) to the summit of the small Asitz (1,870m) - approx. 15-30 minutes - we recommend sturdy footwear and warm clothing.
