For a total of ten days and eleven nights, Hungary's national team stayed at the Leogang Naturhotel Forsthofgut and were well looked after by the team led by hotelier Christoph Schmuck, explains Hungary's team manager Bernd Storck: "We found great conditions to prepare ourselves optimally. The hotel offers huge possibilities. The fitness centre in particular is a great place to work out. In short, we felt very comfortable here." Hungary's defensive midfielder Adam Pinter praised the local football club SC Leogang for the organisation on the pitch: "Everything is very nice here. The training pitches are in great condition and perfectly prepared. We are impressed by the surroundings and the hotel, and the whole team is very happy to have had this experience."
Even though the team wanted one thing above all else for their immediate preparations for the European Championships, namely peace and quiet, there was a great deal of interest in the two media days at the start of the second week of training, explains Saalfelden Leogang Touristik Managing Director Marco Pointner: "Not only were all the well-known Austrian media represented, but also many Hungarian TV teams and journalists who reported on their team's preparations, but also on our region. Some German media representatives were also there to research the preparatory match against the DFB team next Saturday." And Leogang's mayor Sepp Grießner was delighted to see so many Hungarian fans in the town: "Even though the team has largely withdrawn due to the important preparations, there were many Hungarian fans in the town and once again provided many overnight stays here."
Regional delicacies as an elixir of strength
Today, on Thursday afternoon, the Magyars travelled on to Gelsenkirchen, where the preparation match against Germany awaits on Saturday. As a farewell gift, the players and coaches were given a refreshment on the way - a Pinzgau snack basket full of delicacies from the region, presented by Leogang's mayor Sepp Grießner, TVB managing director Marco Pointner and hotelier Christoph Schmuck, should give the Hungarians strength for the Euros, after all, in Leogang they would now be rooting for both the Austrians and the Hungarians: "We have become very fond of our guests, so on 14 June two hearts will be beating in our chest. If it's up to us, we'd like a draw and to see both teams in the round of 16," smiles Schmuck.
Other top teams in the region
Saalfelden Leogang has now made a name for itself beyond the borders as a destination for football training camps. This summer, Red Bull Salzburg, Arminia Bielefeld and Basaksehirspor will also be setting up camp in the region: "The basic prerequisite is that, in addition to a perfect infrastructure, you also offer a great hotel, and here we can score with high quality in Saalfelden Leogang," says TVB Managing Director Pointner.
