Presentation of the 2016 Tourism Award to the local farmers' wives of Saalfelden

The Saalfelden Leogang Touristik GmbH Tourism Prize is awarded annually to institutions, individuals or associations that have shown a special commitment to tourism throughout the year.

This year's award was presented on 10 November 2016 to Katharina Heugenhauser, the chairwoman of the local farmers' wives in Saalfelden.

The election of the local farmer and her deputies takes place every five years. Katharina Heugenhauser has been the chairwoman of the Saalfelden local farmers' wives since 2009, with Katharina Pichler-Steiner and Christine Stöckl as her deputies.
The work of the local farmers is done on a voluntary basis. The women farmers do not form an association and therefore there is no official membership. Nevertheless, there is a very strong sense of solidarity - in Saalfelden there are around 200 farmers' wives who help out at various cultural events every year or organise them themselves with great joy and commitment.

Extract from the activities of the Saalfelden farmers' wives:

  • Traditional farmers' autumn decorations in Saalfelden
  • Catering for guests at various festivals such as cultural festivals, parish festivals, weekly market, etc.
  • Joint parades at all church festivals, such as Corpus Christi and Thanksgiving

A highlight every two years is the big farm festival in Saalfelden, which is organised by the farmers' wives together with the local farmers' association.
Courses and further training for the women farmers successfully round off the annual programme.

The tourism prize was sponsored by Raiffeisen Bank Saalfelden.
The prize was presented on 10 November 2016 by Hannes Riedlsperger, Chairman of the Saalfelden Tourist Board, Georg Hörl, Director of Raiffeisen Bank Saalfelden and Marco Pointner, Managing Director of Saalfelden Leogang Touristik.
