Saalfelden Leogang: Where the football stars train

Year after year, Saalfelden Leogang becomes a training arena for the elite of European football.

This summer, the kickers of numerous top teams dribbled across the turf of the region, using the perfect infrastructure to hit their season or tournament preparations.

With suitable football pitches including hotels and team building facilities, Saalfelden Leogang has been a point of contact for some of the world’s best football clubs for years when it comes to training camps. In addition to Hannover 96, Bayer04 Leverkusen, Feyenoord Rotterdam, the Norwegian U21 national team and seven other teams pitched their tents in the region last summer. Among them were the junior teams of Bayern Munich and WSG Tirol, which used the perfect infrastructure of the country’s neighbours to hone their technique, conditioning and tactics.

For training purposes in the region was also Austrian serial champion Red Bull Salzburg. Eight intensive days of training on and off the pitch were on the agenda for the Mozartstadtter. In addition to the exclusive presentation of the international jerseys, the Bulls also had a test match against Legia Warsaw in Saalfelden Leogang.

Added value for tourism and the region's economy

With the football camps scoring goals, Saalfelden Leogang once again could score this summer. With several football pitches and the high-quality hotel industry and infrastructure, the region more than lived up to its reputation as a professional location for football training camps: “We are very pleased that so many top teams choose Saalfelden Leogang as their optimal training base. Our hotel industry and infrastructure provide everything the teams need for a successful camp,” says Marco Pointner, Managing Director of Saalfelden Leogang Tourismik GmbH. In addition to the enormous advertising value of the training camps through various TV, online and print coverage, the overnight stays of the players, coaches and coaching teams also make a significant contribution to the regional economy.
