The Steinberge mountains tower strikingly between Leogang, the Salzburger Saalachtal and the PillerseeTal. Climbing one of the imposing peaks has always had a special appeal for hikers. The reward is a magnificent view of the surrounding mountains and the picturesque villages in the valley. The Stoabergmarsch24 is characterised by this fascination of impressive natural scenery, sheer endless expanses and a snack at one of the rustic mountain huts with the realisation that you have made it. Added to this is the sense of community and professional support from local mountain professionals. Right from the start, the mountain guides provide the necessary motivation and good humour with musical serenades, a stop at the mountain hut or a rustic snack with a panoramic view. It is therefore not surprising that the number of participants has grown steadily over the years. Whether you are a local or a guest - the 24-hour hike between Tyrol and Salzburg brings together hikers of all kinds.
A midsummer night's delight for mountain enthusiasts
The key data of the Stoabergmarsch24 is impressive. 4139 metres in altitude have to be conquered over almost 50 kilometres. To make the 24-hour hike a pleasure, a certain amount of mountain experience is an advantage, as mountain guide Markus Kogler explains. "24 hours can be quite exhausting. A certain level of fitness is of course necessary, as well as surefootedness and a head for heights. That way, you can really enjoy the Stoabergmarsch24 from start to finish." Surefootedness and fitness are also put to the test right at the start of the tour. The starting signal for this year's Stoaberg March is given on 22 June at nine o'clock. From the historic village centre in Leogang at 800 metres, the route leads directly up to the Passauer Hütte, the highest point of the 24-hour hike at 2051 metres above sea level. In the midst of the mountains, the participants experience another highlight: the traditional fire burning. According to ancient custom, mountain fires are lit on the summits and slopes on the Saturday after the longest day of the year, creating a truly mystical atmosphere. The descent leads over the back of the Leoganger Steinberge and the Saalachtal valley to Weißbach near Lofer. The trail then leads over the beautiful Römersattel to Hochfilzen and the Wiesensee lake in the direction of St. Jakob in Haus, where the Jakobskreuz on the Buchensteinwand is already within reach.
For the sake of nature: Green Event
Sustainability and nature conservation are important concerns at the Stoabergmarsch24, which is why the event is organised as a so-called "Green Event". The quality seal of the province of Salzburg requires numerous measures. The sustainability measures range from travelling to the event by public transport, the use of reusable crockery instead of plastic or disposable items to the predominant use of regional products and the avoidance of waste.
