Saalfelden Leogang is once again the destination of this extraordinary long-distance hike.
Two federal states, 40 kilometres and 4500 metres in altitude: The Stoaberg March is both a challenge and an incomparable nature experience and will be taking place for the sixth time on 23 June. In 24 hours, hikers will discover and experience the highlights of the Steinberge mountains between the Saalfelden Leogang and Salzburger Saalachtal regions in Salzburger Land and the PillerseeTal on the Tyrolean side. Under the expert guidance of trained mountain guides, the Stoaberg March 2018 starts in the Salzburger Saalachtal. The route takes you over the Loferer Steinberge mountains to the Tyrolean side to the biathlon mecca of Hochfilzen and onwards across the gentle alpine landscape of the Grießner Almen back to Pinzgau. The traditional midsummer bonfires, which are lit on the surrounding peaks of the region on the evening of the longest day of the year, accompany hikers on their way through the night and provide breathtaking views. The wonderfully situated Spielbergalmen and the idyllic Schwarzleotal valley in Saalfelden Leogang mark the last stage of the Stoaberg March. The eventful 24 hours come to an end in the Hütten district of Leogang.
"This hike is aimed at all participants with a good basic level of fitness and some hiking experience, but no climbing skills are required," explains the guide in charge, Markus Kogler. And if you reach your limits during the 24 hours, a rest stop at the summit makes up for it - including a magnificent mountain panorama and a musical serenade or two: "Experiencing the fantastic evening atmosphere on the mountain and hiking through the night is a unique experience that will stay with you for a long time," says Kogler.
