From 8 to 11 June 2017, the Out of Bounds Festival is also the starting signal for the numerous bike events in the region.
Next weekend, downhillers will kick off the new season in Lourdes, France. From 8 to 11 June, Saalfelden Leogang will then be the venue for the only World Cup stop in Austria for the seventh time in a row: "We are one of seven venues in seven countries and on two continents. This internationality is of course an important image factor for us. In addition to the reputation in the scene, the numerous teams also bring us many overnight stays. In addition, there are around 16,000 spectators on a weekend," explains Marco Pointner, Managing Director of Saalfelden Leogang Touristik.
Spectacular event weekend
But it's not just the Downhill World Cup that impresses with its international appeal: the 26TRIX is also one of the most important mountain bike dirt jump competitions in the world. Rated as an FMB World Tour event with gold status since 2010, the 26TRIX will once again attract a high-calibre field of riders to Leogang in 2017. In addition to the sporting highlights, the organisers have once again set themselves the goal of offering spectators an overall experience throughout the weekend. The annual sold-out Ö3 disco, numerous side events to take part in, the large expo area and a show by the Flying Bulls round off the jam-packed Out of Bounds weekend: "The whole weekend will be a real spectacle. Thanks to the Flying Bulls, we are particularly pleased to be able to offer plenty of action off the slopes in addition to the high-performance sport on the course," says Kornel Grundner, Managing Director of Leoganger Bergbahnen.
Downhill World Championship 2020
Gravity enthusiasts can also look forward to high-calibre mountain bike action at Bikepark Leogang in the long term: Not only has the World Cup already been secured until 2019, but Austria's mountain bike Mecca will also be hosting a major sporting event again in 2020 after eight years: In autumn 2020, the medal decision in the downhill discipline will return to the experienced World Cup venue: "For us, this is brilliant confirmation that we not only stage exciting races and offer a good infrastructure, but also that the entire team - from landowners to volunteers - works together perfectly," says Grundner.
Biketember festival in autumn closes the event season
Two event pillars frame the bike summer in Saalfelden Leogang. While the Out of Bounds Festival marks the beginning, the Biketember Festival in September marks the end of the event season in the bike region. As in previous years, a top-class European Cross Country Cup race will once again take place in the Bürgerau district of Saalfelden this year. But downhillers won't miss out in autumn either: the iXS European Downhill Cup is the last race of the season on European soil. And for young bikers aged between three and 16, the SCOTT Junior Trophy will once again have its own competition: "With these events, we are able to generate global coverage for Saalfelden Leogang. We want to make ourselves even better known as a biking region," says Pointner.
