Theatre festival VOLXOMMER Saalfelden Leogang

The VOLXOMMER theatre festival was ceremoniously opened in the parish hall in Leogang. The series of events kicked off with the comedy "Betrogene Betrüger" by Peter Blaikner. The theatre festival, which runs until 20 August, is completed by Till Eulenspiegel.

Together with the ecce theatre and the FREIRAUM cultural association, cultural events are staged and organised every year in the Saalfelden Leogang holiday region. The VOLXOMMER theatre festival is also part of the comprehensive theatre concept.
Reinhold Tritscher, chairman of the theatre ecce association, comments: "Working in the Saalfelden Leogang region is always a great pleasure for us - the cooperation with the cultural organisers, the municipalities and the tourism association works wonderfully here."

The play:
They want to act particularly cleverly and end up looking like fools themselves. They cheat someone and are cheated themselves in the process. They have a brilliant plan, but unfortunately - it goes wrong. This is the archetypal form of human ridiculousness, the stuff of comedy, liberating laughter about people who, in their exaggerated seriousness, only seem funny and become victims of their own incompetence.

Five French farces by anonymous authors from the 15th century have been newly translated, rewritten and modernised without changing their original mood. They sparkle with humour and poke fun at everyday comic situations. They deal with hypocrites, gamblers, businessmen, shysters, corrupt shepherds and, of course, time and again with wives and husbands who seek their fortune with their neighbours. Their spontaneous humour and surprisingly timeless originality are still effective today. Originating as theatre scenes for festivals and fairs, these are the first comedies of our culture, models for the great comedies of Europe. Humour is the last refuge of thinking people.

The play:
Who doesn't know him? Till Eulenspiegel, the medieval prankster who fooled half of Europe. In the turbulent musical by Peter Blaikner and Konstantin Wecker, he pokes fun at the Duchess of Zeckenburg, the landlady, the priest, the Minister of Health and, above all, the police commissioner of Wanzenreich, Gustav Höllriegl, who wants to catch him, whatever the cost. Because the law is the law! What's more, Till has fallen in love with Höllriegl's daughter Nele. That could be something! Even if Till Eulenspiegel is leading everyone around by the nose, he has his heart in the right place. He just wants us to laugh at him, because - laughter is the best medicine. That's what Professor Doctor Genialo Ratzeputz says.

After all, it's better to simply laugh from the bottom of your heart instead of getting angry. Till Eulenspiegel shows us how.

3) „Jeppe vom Berge“
Folk comedy by Ludvig Holberg
German adaptation by H. Wochinz and H.C. Artmann

Dates:
Thu, 17 August 2017, 8 pm
Sun, 20 August 2017, 8 pm
Village square Leogang (in case of bad weather in the parish hall)

  • Live music: Rupert Bopp, Muamer Kebic
  • Stage: Alois Ellmauer
  • Costumes: Nora Fankhauser
  • Technical direction: Simon Habl
  • Production: Reinhold Tritscher

The play:
"Jeppe vom Berge" is one of the first socio-critical comedies in European theatre history by Ludvig Holberg - the "Danish Molière" in a modern guise. This baroque comedy, congenially adapted by H.C. Artmann, is full of biting mockery of "prevailing conditions".

Holberg took the material from Jakob Biedermann's novel "Utopia". The farmer Jeppe becomes a splendid comic figure, but one who never loses his tragedy. In the translation by H.C. Artmann in collaboration with Herbert Wochinz, "Jeppe" became a cult play at the comedy theatre
the comedy plays at Porcia Castle. The ecce theatre has given the baroque comedy a modern twist and delighted audiences with performances in Salzburg and the Ukraine.

Straightforward arrangements of Elvis songs with a focus on the essentials transport the King of Rock'n Roll into the confused Austrian present.

5) "The repeat offender"

Songs, chansons, songs by and with Peter Blaikner

Dates:
Mon, 14 August 2017, 8 pm
Village square Leogang (in case of bad weather in the parish hall)

Peter Blaikner (vocals, guitar)
Reinhold Kletzander (guitar)
Ben Pascal (bass)

Info:
Whether in German, in dialect, as a story with a surprising punchline or as a mood for special moments, these songs all reveal one thing in their diversity - Peter Blaikner's very own style. He plays with words and sounds, tells stories that would fill an evening on their own, a modern troubadour with a sharp wit, a mischievous streak in his neck and a few dreams before his eyes.

Peter Blaikner presents a linguistically and musically multi-layered programme in a successful combination of his original songs, cheeky and witty folk songs and his legendary translations of chansons by Frenchmen Georges Brassens and François Villon.
