Salzburg’s Matěj Švancer is one of the best freeskiers in the world, at just 18 years old. If he hasn't been working on new tricks at the Snowpark for the past nine years, his place at the Federal and Sports Realgymnasium (HIB) has been Saalfelden. There you cut the ski rough diamond to the freestyle flyover.
“I’ve spent half my life here in the classroom or boarding school,” explains Matěj Švancer. “The location is a part of me, so it was a dream to do one final run through the school before the final exams.”
A few weeks before his graduation, the native of Prague quickly transforms the school premises in the Saalfelden Leogang region into his urban freeski playground and proves that he will probably pass his final exam with distinction in the subject Freestyle with his clean tricks.
Rails, gaps and big features – the 18-year-old from Salzburg did his homework right. Whether the judges, in this case his teachers, factored the scores into the assessment remains to be seen. But one thing is clear:
The urban freestyle test of Matěj Švancer will be remembered for a long time to come.
