VOLXOMMER Theatre Festival Saalfelden Leogang

The VOLXOMMER theatre festival is taking place again this year in Saalfelden Leogang.

1) "A Midsummer Night's Dream" after William Shakespeare

  • Circus tent Leogang / Steinbergstadion
  • 1/3/9/10/15/16 August 2019, each at 7.30 pm

The wild dance around jealousy and repressed desires makes William Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" one of his most frequently performed comedies. Where better to set it than in a circus tent on the edge of a forest? Is it a dream or reality? Puck, the loyal servant of the fairy king Oberon, is up to mischief thanks to his magic nectar. For the lovers concerned, the Athenian woods become a maze of passions. As if the human shortcomings in matters of love were not complicated enough, the wickedly funny journeyman Puck entangles the mortal lovers in the affairs of the king and his wife Titania.

The most ingenious festival play known to world literature, staged by the ecce theatre in a mix of acrobatics, drama and live music.

  • Performing are: Salim Chreiki, Alaaeldin Dyab, Gerard Es, Kristin Henkel, Philipp Kieninger, Alexander Lughofer, Pamina Milewska, Jurek Milewski, Cassandra Rühmling, Andreas Schober, Sonja Zobel and others.
  • Live music: Nane Frühstückl
  • Stage: Alois Ellmauer
  • Costumes: Lili Brit Pfeiffer
  • Technical direction: Hannes Peithner-Lichtenfels
  • Production: Reinhold Tritscher

2) "Berghof" - Dr Zauberberg's Reha Holding West

  • Kunsthaus Nexus, Saalfelden
  • 2 August 2019, 7.30 pm

A production of the VOLXtheatre workshops Saalfelden and Salzburg
After meeting in the bar "Hafen der gestrandeten Sehnsüchte" and the "Schlafstörungen" in their neighbourhood, the characters developed in the LAUBE VOLXtheaterwerkstatt from different social classes meet in a fictitious rehab facility and give further insights into their mental lives and the Austrian healthcare system.

This new play developed by the VOLXtheaterwerkstätten Salzburg and Saalfelden on the topics of "rehabilitation and spa stays" and the associated complex of topics such as the healthcare system, the transparent human being, various social and interpersonal clashes between clients is brought to the stage in a tried and tested offbeat manner with an inclusive ensemble. "The "damaged" (damaged by what?) and the "in need of repair" (what are they supposed to be made fit for again?) come together and encounter a social system that doesn't always hit the mark. Texts by Thomas Mann ("The Magic Mountain") serve as inspiration for the illustrious company in the "Berghof".

  • Performing: Participants from the VOLXtheatre workshops in Salzburg and Saalfelden
  • Costume consultant: Lili Brit Pfeiffer
  • Technical direction: Hannes Peithner-Lichtenfels
  • Production: Reinhold Tritscher

3) "The theatre maker" - guest performance by the m2-kulturexpress cultural association

  • Ritzen Castle Museum
  • 4 August 2019, 7.30 pm

The theatre maker who has been making theatre all his life, but is not allowed to make theatre...

Scenic reading or a radio play or something completely different? The refusal of the rights to perform Thomas Bernhard's "Der Theatermacher" for the m2-kulturexpress has turned Suhrkamp Verlag and the copyright holders of Bernhard's complete works into the parents of this play. Charly Rabanser has simply written his own theatre maker.
A play about the narrow-mindedness of publishers, the powerlessness in the face of the cultural ignorance of the country folk, about the abysses of politics.
Martin Gasselsberger, pianist, composer, arranger and bandleader, on the one hand amplifies words and deepens meaning, and on the other hand creates contrasts and edges with his music, but also a pinch of confidence.
Christoph Auer "hosts".

"A masterpiece full of emotion, musicality and depth! And it's a bit more: a look into the abysses of the publishing business, which clings to the theatre like a parasite." (Leo Fellinger, kunstbox review)
Guest performance by the cultural association m2-kulturexpress Neukirchen am Großvenediger With Charly Rabanser, Martin Gasselsberger and Christoph Auer

4) "And off" - guest performance by the Blue Dogs

  • Kunsthaus Nexus, Saalfelden
  • 8 August 2019, 7.30 pm

A final battle between (by and with) Alex Dick, Wolf Junger and Stefan Wartbichler: Stefan has stolen Alex's secret notes and could blackmail him with them if it weren't for the misfortune of Alex regaining the upper hand...

The Blue Dogs' last production. A résumé of all their attempts to save the world and themselves. A 'Be(a)st of Blue Dogs'.
A stumble between inclusion and intervention, an aid to life as contempt for death.
The actors are: Alexander Dick, Stefan Wartbichler and others.
Production: Wolf Junger

5) "Fräulein Pünktchen is(s)t gern pünktlich"

  • Museum Schloss Ritzen Saalfelden
  • 10/11 August 2019, 5 pm each day

Musical children's play for all ages three and up by and with Samira Kirschhofer

Miss Dottie's attempt to prepare a colourful birthday picnic for her ladybird friend Marius leads to a series of mishaps and surprises. In the end, not necessarily to punctuality and even less to satiety, but to the joy of their friendship, the gifts of everyday life and, above all, the gift of forgiveness.

6) "Cobwebs and earth maggots"

  • Workshop week for children and young people aged 6 to 18
  • Circus tent Leogang and others.
  • 12-17 August 2019 (no workshop on 15.8.!)

Due to its great success, the ecce theatre is once again offering a workshop week for children and young people as part of this year's VOLXOMMER theatre festival with workshops in the fields of acrobatics, acting, music
and object construction. The results will be presented to the public on 17 August at 5 pm in the circus tent. No previous experience is required to take part. After registration, the groups will be put together according to age and interests. Changes are always possible depending on capacity.

7) Lilly Naneen & The Gigolos

  • Circus tent Leogang
  • 17 August 2019, 7.30 pm

Let's take a nostalgic journey into the past and immerse ourselves in the wonderful melodies of the 20s to 50s! Whether Marlene Dietrich, Zarah Leander, the Comedian Harmonists, Hildegard Knef, and many more... The majority of the titles are still well-known today! With sensitivity and creativity, the band approaches the compositions of German music history, most of which were accompanied by large dance orchestras at the time, and reinterprets them! We revive old hits, which in many cases have their origins in the American swing era and were underlaid with German lyrics, and bring them back to our memories!

  • Nane Frühstückl alias "Lilly Naneen" - vocals
  • Helmar Hill - piano
  • Michael Leibetseder - drums
