Saalfelden Leogang - the most beautiful places for genuine and relaxed enjoyment of nature

Swinging in the forest, gazing over the water, marvelling at the rocks and visiting the hermit

The nature around Saalfelden Leogang is particularly rich in contrasts. From steep cliffs to lush meadows and dense forests, guests can experience everything here. Each point offers its own view, its own experience - from the treetops to the bottom of the lake, from the summit cross to the hermitage. The four most beautiful places in Saalfelden Leogang to really enjoy the contrasting nature:

Look up at the sky through the treetops from the forest swings

Hanging in the middle of the forest, close to the hiking trails, are the forest swings. If you sit or lie down on one, you automatically look upwards, up into the treetops and into the sky. The swing and your gaze sway gently and suddenly you have a completely new perspective on the nature that surrounds you. You can see the many fine branches, the cones and the birds that live high up in the trees. Two large wrought-iron rings form a swing. One third of the parallel hanging rings are connected with narrow wooden panels that form the lying surface. The forest swings are part of the "simply hike" concept, which aims to encourage guests in Saalfelden Leogang to enjoy nature and switch off. The 360-degree benches at beautiful vantage points for the perfect panoramic view and the stick-sharing stations along the hiking trails, where you can borrow carved wooden sticks for the upcoming tour, are also part of this concept.

Enjoy a drink at the hermitage and the view over the valley

The hermitage stands spectacularly above Saalfelden at 1,006 metres on a rock in the middle of the forest. A hermit actually still lives here, without electricity or running water. The small building was constructed in the 17th century and even has a small chapel. Today, this hermitage is one of the last inhabited hermitages in Europe. A bearded Belgian man currently lives up here as a hermit and is happy to treat passers-by to cold drinks. From the "resting place of the soul", as the locals call the place, you have a wonderful view over the valley and the small town of Saalfelden. The circular route, which leads past the hermitage, takes around 1.5 hours and is also suitable for families.

Spend the night between the rugged rocks of the Steinernes Meer

Nestled in a gap between the two steeply rising mountains Sommerstein and Breithorn, the Riemannhaus lies at 2,177 metres in the middle of the Steinernes Meer. The view only opens up towards Saalfelden and over the mountain peaks far behind, offering the eye a bit of greenery. Otherwise just spectacular, rugged grey: the Steinerne Meer. Here at the Riemannhaus, the contrast between green valleys and steep cliffs is probably at its most striking. You can hardly get enough of this natural spectacle. A mountain tour to the neighbouring peaks of the Breithorn, the Sommerstein or the Schönfeldspitze is still worthwhile - also because of the new views. The ascent to the Riemannhaus takes around three hours, and those who wish can spend the night in the Riemannhaus or continue hiking through the Steinerne Meer to Königssee on the Bavarian side.

Calm waters on the Asitz soothe the soul and the eyes

The reservoir on the Asitz, Leogang's local mountain, lies very still. A footbridge leads to a round platform almost in the centre of the lake. If you sit down here on the round bench, you can see the imposing Steinberge massif above the water. You can see that the trees only grow up to a certain height, that the grass and moss then turn the mountains green and that only rugged, grey rock rises up towards the summit. On the shore of the reservoir, large stones lie in a shallow area, forming circles and benches. Here you can dangle your legs in the cold water and enjoy the panorama in all directions.
