My first 3 Days Jazz festival

We are able to tell you with great relief: Events can take place

Despite Covid 19, the JAZZ WEEKENDER 2020 and the 41st Jazz Festival 2021 could take place and were both very successful. So it was clear for our Jazz Festival organisational team that also the 3 Days Jazz 2022 winter festival has to take place. Since this decision was made, we were trembling and hoping that the festival can take place. The lockdown, which was introduced in the end of november thwarted our plans and we could never be sure. However, now we are so happy to carry on with our preparations. Especially for me, as "the new one" in the jazz team Saalfelden, everything is really thrilling, because it's the first time that i experience the 3 Days Jazz Festival as an employee. After two big Jazz Festivals, where I worked as a trainee, I became a fix member of the team this year in summer and I am now assistent executive producer. I am really looking forward to my first winter festival and because of this reason I'd like to introduce you to this festival. 

Younger brother and at the same time back-to-the-roots

Saalfelden is known for the International Jazzfestival in summer. However, the beauty of the region is not only noticeable on warm summer days, but also on cold and sunny winter days. In 2016 our team had the idea of organizing a smaller winter edition of the Jazz Festival in January. The name 3 Days Jazz was inspired by the former name of the International Jazz Festival, which had been 3 Days Jazz over 40 years ago. Moreover, also the logo from the year 1978 was adapted to the new one and reused for the new festival. At the 3 Days Jazz festival in winter, 8 concerts take place at various locations and several sideevents also take place. 

Locationcheck: The locations of the concerts

What would a festival be without the ideal locations? In Saalfelden Leogang, there are three locations, where the concerts take place. The majority of the concerts takes place in the Nexus, which is located in the city center of Saalfelden. This stage is already known by most of the visitors of the Jazz Festival, as it is used in sommer as well as in winter. A festival without the Nexus stage is simply not possible!

The Mining and Gothic Museum in Leogang is a new location for the festival, because concerts eklusively take place there at the winter edition of the festival. I’m really looking forward to the concert in the Thurnhaus (a former fortifyed tower). In the Thurnhaus you can really feel a special atmosphere. In between the concerts, visitors can not only enjoy a raclette bread and a cup of hot mulled wine in front of the museum, but also the snow-white landscape. A perfect programme for cold winter days!

The "3 C" rules of the Jazz programme: concerts, cinema and curator guided tour

The 3 Days Jazz 2022 offers a compact programme, consisting of 8 concerts, a film - shown at the festival start - as well as an exhibition with works of Till Nowak, including a curator guided tour. Three concerts take place on Friday evening and three on Saturday evening in the Nexus in Saalfelden. Here's a secret tip from me to make the most out of the weekend: On the days, discover the region while skiing or winter hinking and finish off your evenings with a visit at a jazz concert. After a delicious breakfast at Sunday, I recommend to visit the two concerts in the Mining and Gothic Museum in Leogang. A special highlight is the concert at the mountain restaurant Stöcklalm, which is located at the middle station of the Asitzbahn cable car. Connect skiing and jazz music!

Last but not least, there are only two things missing for a perfect winter festival: A enthusiastic audience and a wintry jazz atmosphere. We have two good news for you: There is enough snow here in Saalfelden Leogang and you can already buy your tickets. Our region is already snow-white and at the online ticket shop you can buy entrance tickets for 3 Days Jazz.
