Over the past ten years, the organizers of the Biberg Auffireradler in Saalfelden Leogang have experienced a lot: extraordinary sporting achievements, challenging weather conditions, well-known names on the starting list and countless participants from the region – because the Biberg Auffireradler lives above all on its spirit among the locals. In addition to the sporting competition, the cozy gathering after the award ceremony with the big raffle, supported by numerous domestic sponsors, is an annual highlight. But this social highlight has to be earned hard, because the route of the Biberg Auffiradler is a hard nut: again it goes over numerous turns with a crisp 700 meters of altitude and 5.5 kilometers from the parking lot of the summer toboggan run up to the Berggasthof Biberg. If you want to climb the coveted “Beaver deer” at the end, you have to prove true uphill qualities with this route profile. The launch will take place on Friday, September 2 at 6pm. Registration is possible in advance at https://auffiradler.jimdofree.com/ and at Sport 2000 SIMON in Saalfelden, or up to an hour before the start of the race.
The 42nd edition of the Jazzfestival Saalfelden came to an end with the session of Austrian drummer Lukas König last night. Four days, during which 230 musicians from 20 nations turned the small town in the Austrian province of Salzburg and the breathtaking nature of the region into a musical pilgrimage site. Almost 18,000 visits including record ticket sales show once again that the makers of the festival presented a successful and diverse program, which ignored pigeonholing and had something to offer for everyone - for jazz connoisseurs and lovers, but also simply for all music enthusiasts! The City Tracks opening concerts on Thursday were already well received by the audience and were a foretaste of a programme full of facets for the days to come. While Hammond player Raphael Wressnig and his comrades-in-arms, together with singer Gisele Jackson, transformed the Stadtpark into a party mile, and the quintet Melting Pot took the unusual Fuchs bookbindery and turned it into a musical venue, the Austrian-Serbian formation OstBeatBend looked beyond geographical and cultural borders with Gipsy music and folk melodies from the Balkans. The first two concerts at the start of the festival already showed that the Short Cuts at the Nexus are no longer an insider tip and that they are a very special attraction for musical truffle hunters, so that both the Austrian band Ventil and the German-British-Turkish quartet Usine with bassist and electronic musician James Banner played in front of a sold-out house. And also the following days, for example with the solo concert of the US-American pianist Jason Moran or the trio Acoustic Unity around drummer Gard Nilssen, are considered by many to be a very special highlight. The latter and drummer Katharina Ernst were Artists in Residence this year, and their immensely diverse projects appeared again and again in the context of the total of 65 concerts. The industrial charm of the Otto Gruber Hall has now been definitively integrated into the festival's program as a venue, and it is not only visually that it serves as a counterpoint to the greenery of the Stadtpark. Bands such as the French formation Nout or Gard Nilssen’s project Bushman's Revenge created works of sound art in the sober hall, while the Stadtpark with Luca Bassanese & La Piccola Orchestra Popolare once again became, despite the partly uncertain weather situation, a stage of good humor - but which also had room for the ironic-abysmal tones of a Felix Kramer. After the opening concert at the Mainstage in the Congress Saalfelden by the Austrian musician Fabian Rucker with his commissioned project RUCKER, and the large formation Christoph Cech Jazz Orchestra Project, the stage belonged this year mainly to international formations with Emile Parisien, Paal Nilssen, the Trondheim Jazz Orchestra & Jason Moran, Isaiah Collier, Vincent Courtois and Vijay Iyer. The mountain tracks and flash mobs, which give the festival its very own touch, are considered a special experience. Concerts in the midst of nature, such as the Kollingwald forest concert to which trumpeter Cuong Vu invited guitarist Even Helte Hermansen and the aforementioned Gard Nilssen, played with the concept of soundscape, while musician Siegmar Brecher set creative accents with like-minded people in possible and impossible places in the city. The fact that the regime-critical political punk group from Moscow, Pussy Riot, was brought to Saalfelden as part of the City Tracks was also a small musical adventure for many. Everyone involved dealt with the ever-present downpours in a relaxed manner: the second "We Hike Jazz" excursion with regular musician Lukas Kranzelbinder was quickly relocated to the Leogang Mining and Gothic Museum, the rehearsal for the sunrise concert "Half a Quartet in a Rowing Boat" was held with rain gear (and a lot of fun), and the short distances from venue to venue were simply covered sometimes with umbrella or turned-up collar. "What was in the foreground," says Mario Steidl, the artistic director of the Jazzfestival, "was the great atmosphere among the audience, artists and team, the great joy of being able to celebrate together again and have a good time in addition to unique concerts and impressions. The fact that we sold more tickets this year than ever before seems to confirm us in this." SAVE THE DATE: The 43rd Jazzfestival Saalfelden will take place from August 17 - 20, 2023! For the first time, Austria’s largest bike region, Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn, will host a “super-event” of the newly organized Mountain Bike World Cup for mountain bikers from 15 to 18 June. In addition to the downhill and cross country decisions (short track and Olympic discipline), the Enduro riders will also for the first time determine their World Cup winners at the Epic Bikepark Leogang and Saalbach Hinterglemm. Three exciting mountain bike disciplines in one weekend: there is reason for joy in Saalfelden Leogang due to a restructuring of the international cycling federation (UCI), which for the first time unites all the major mountain bike formats in a common calendar in order to promote the growth of the sport. The combined 2023 calendar for the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup and the Enduro World Series includes 15 World Cup stops with 34 races and will take place in ten countries on three continents. Some new World Cups are also joined by renowned and experienced organizers, such as the team around Kornel Grundner and Marco Pointner in Saalfelden Leogang, which is given a special honor. From 15 to 18 June, Leogang will host the first meeting of the cross-country, downhill and enduro elite at the same venue. Leogang is one of only two triple World Cups in the coming season, which will start with enduro races in Oceania in March and end in Mount Sainte Anne, Canada, in October. “We are very proud to be part of the World Cup action again in 2023 and to be able to welcome a new discipline that fits perfectly into the EPIC Bikepark,” said the organizers, who have made the Mountainbike World Cup in Saalfelden Leogang a real summer highlight in Salzburg and beyond over the past decade.
Numerous workshops for all skill levels, the latest test material and much more waiting for you! Saalfelden Leogang will once again be at the centre of the mountain bike action in autumn – the special thing about the BIKE Festival, which also stops at Lake Garda and in Willingen? In addition to numerous renowned bike brands that travel to the Pinzgau with the latest material for testing, this year again some professionals have plenty of time and patience in their luggage to pass on their knowledge to the bike-loving amateurs and to exchange with the fans. For three days from 16 to 18 September, everything revolves around the topic of bike in the EPIC Bikepark Leogang: A large exhibition area with the latest trends on the market and lots of free test material awaits, as well as almost hourly, free workshops for all levels and with well-known experts, including Austria’s most successful male downhiller, Andi Kolb, who could also be recruited as a coach for the BIKE Academy, such as Elias Schwaerzler, Joost Wichmann, Jasper Jauch, Stefan Schlie, Lukas Schaefer or Hanna Steinthaler. The numerous trails and lines in the EPIC Bikepark serve as “classrooms” – participation in the workshops is like admission to the festival grounds free of charge. Discounted lift tickets are available on all three days of the event (minus 15 percent): “It’s the perfect weekend for a visit to the EPIC Bikepark Leogang. All workshops and tours with the professionals are free, all trails and lines are open, there are discounted lift tickets for everyone and a trade fair where visitors can borrow material for testing”, Marco Pointner, Managing Director of Saalfelden Leogang Tourism, is also looking forward to the fourth edition of the BIKE Festival Saalfelden Leogang. The popular junior competition, “Scott Junior Trophy Pumptrack”, is also back and offers the youngsters the opportunity to prove their skills on Sunday. Registration for the BIKE Academy tours and workshops for the BIKE Festival in Leogang 2022 starts on August 16th. Participation is free: https://leogang.bike-festival.de/
In the “TV and Radio Spot” category, the region was able to take home the Kristall Award as the overall winner at the 35th T.A.I. Advertising Grand Prix. In two other categories there were the “Signum Laudis Medal” in silver and bronze respectively. Original, creative, memorable, with a high level of significance - this is the Saalfelden Leogang Tourismik not only when it comes to creating holiday moments. With awards in the framework of the prestigious Austrian advertising prize, the T.A.I. Advertising Grand Prix, the region recently proved that these attributes also apply to its advertising media. "As I Will" production Overall winner in TV and radio spots In a field of a total of 153 applicants, Saalfelden Leogang Touristik GmbH was able to prevail against the competition with the radio spot “Holiday in Saalfelden Leogang. Just like I want.” in the category “TV- and radio spot” and secure the coveted crystal sculpture “World in our hands”. The production was created together with the agency Rahofer from Salzburg and is intended to generate moments of longing for mountains, for time off, for rest and for individual holiday design. But the tourism region also performed well in terms of moving images or in printed form at the T.A.I. Werbung Grand Prix 2022. As part of the audience evaluation in the “TV/cinema spot” category, Saalfelden Leogang reached second place together with the Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn and their “Home of Léssig” signature clip. In the category “Catalogues & Brochures Destinations”, the year-round magazine of the Saalfelden region Leogang, which is designed annually with the Berlin agency Nectar & Pulse, placed third in the audience ranking. Two of the many award-winning hotels in Saalfelden Leogang are also among the winners of the T.A.I. Werbung Grand Prix 2022. The Hotel “Der Krallerhof” won the Signum Laudis Silver in the jury evaluation in the category “Catalogues & Brochures Hotels” and the “Naturhotel Forsthofgut” Signum Laudis Silver in the jury evaluation in the category “Marketing- & Social Media Campaigns”. “The T.A.I. Advertising Grand Prix is considered to be one of the toughest and fairest competitions for tourist advertising through the participation of the public in the voting, in addition to an expert jury. We are very proud to have won a crystal award and two “Signum Laudis” medals in this competition. This is a great honor for us! Continuous product development in our focus areas of hiking, biking, skiing alpine, skiing Nordic and culture, as well as year-round marketing activities are among the most important measures that make us a successful year-round destination. At the same time, we do not lose sight of our goal of increasing value creation throughout the region, strengthening regional economic cycles and thus creating a high-quality living space in Saalfelden Leogang”, says Marco Pointner, Managing Director of Saalfelden Leogang Tourismik. For over 40 years one of the most prestigious advertising awards The T.A.I. Werbung Grand Prix was founded in 1980 by the specialist newspaper Tourist Austria International. It is awarded in the categories TV and radio spot, online & digital marketing campaigns as well as in the areas print (posters, catalogues, brochures) and websites. In addition to the voting by an expert jury, the T.A.I. Werbung Grand Prix also includes the opinion of the audience. For this reason, the Austrian Prize is considered one of the fairest competitions for tourism advertising.
With Katharina Ernst and Gard Nilssen, two internationally successful drummers, Mario Steidl, the artistic director of the festival, has nominated two artists this year who will each bring four different projects to the stage. KATHARINA ERNST Irritation and composition, the over- and attacking compilation seem to be the top priority for Katharina Ernst, studied percussionist and painter. The artist, who was born in Vienna, studied in France and lives in Berlin, especially appreciates the performative and chaotic, the polyrhythmic and metrical aspects of her percussion, which is often supplemented electronically and has been her means of expression since the age of nine. Music, art and choreography complement each other in her work, from the theatre stage to the gallery or concert hall to the club. Katharina Ernst is always moving, in motion, also in the numerous, different projects in the context of her "residency" at the Jazzfestival Saalfelden 2022. VENTIL Thursday, 18.08. | 09:00 p.m. | Short Cuts | Kunsthaus Nexus VENTIL is a discharging energy package, an "audiovisual band". Delicate, shimmering and hard sound particles are combined with rhythmic structures as powerful as they are complex, and visually framed by live-generated video and light architectures. SORTIE D'ATELIER Friday, 19.08. | 04:15 p.m. | City Tracks | Kunsthaus Nexus The French expression Sortie d'Atelier literally means "what leaves the studio" and thus denotes the possibility of gaining an insight into an artistic working process. No finished show is presented, no finished exhibition, no final programme, but a phase, a status quo, an excerpt. On this occasion, the audience comes into contact with the process of becoming, with the search for form. EXTRAMETRIC Saturday, 20.08. | 03:00 p.m. | City Tracks | Gruber Halle Extrametric is the name of Katharina Ernst's debut solo record, released in 2018. She explores polyrhythms in a variety of ways, ranging from groovy tracks to abstract compositions and ecstatic outbursts on the drum set. CHILDREN'S WORKSHOP: THE BIOTOPE OF ANIMALS Sunday, 21.08. | 11:00 a.m. | Rookies Programme Together with children from kindergarten age, Katharina Ernst will craft their own shakers from various materials. In the second part of the workshop, the children learn different ways of playing with the instruments they have made themselves, such as forte, pianissimo, accelerando, deccelerando as well as listening to each other and communicating with the instrument. At the end, a small composition will be performed using the techniques learned. ______ GARD NILSSEN Drummer, composer, sonic adventurer - 39-year-old Norwegian Gard Nilssen is one of the most exciting and consistent musicians on the current European scene. Born into a family in Skien where "everyone played drums", Gard Nilssen is on tour with his own bands and as a drummer in the Maciej Obara 4tet, the Trondheim Jazz Orchestra or with Thomas Dybdahl at least 200 days a year. The "vintage drum freak" can be heard on over seventy recordings - such as "Artist in Residence" at the Jazzfestival Saalfelden 2022. BUSHMAN'S REVENGE Friday, 19.08. | 10:45 p.m. | City Tracks | Gruber Hall "Sounds like Cream playing music by Coltrane, Alice and John remixed by Arne Nordheim or Karlheinz Stockhausen", say Bushman's Revenge themselves. For at least fifteen years and ten albums, this "semi-acoustic" trio from Norway has been bundling heaps of rock energy and jazz freedom into noisy sound sculptures. "Insanely good", as the British Jazzwise found. GARD NILSSEN ACOUSTIC UNITY Saturday, 20.08. | 01:30 p.m. | Short Cuts |Kunsthaus Nexus For eight years, drummer Gard Nilssen, saxophonist André Roligheten and bassist Petter Eldh have formed an Acoustic Unity. Their third album already bore a reference to Ornette Coleman in the title, the band name reminds of Albert Ayler. The power that unfolds in the intimately connected yet free interplay of these three individuals is, however, completely original - and sensational. CUONG VU INVITES EVEN HELTE HERMANSEN & GARD NILSSEN Sunday, 21.08. | 11:00 a.m. | Mountain Tracks | Kollingwald Invited by Vietnamese-American trumpeter Cuong Vu and together with Bushman's Revenge colleague Even Helte Hermansen on guitar, Gard Nilssen will add "abstract soundscapes" to the forest clearing of Kollingwald. GARD NILSSEN'S SUPERSONIC ORCHESTRA Sunday, 21.08. | 03:00 p.m. | Mainstage | Congress Saalfelden Nilssen describes his sixteen-piece Supersonic Orchestra as a "barely tamed, beautiful monster". Energetically and experimentally, they bring together the precision of Count Basie with the Afrobeat of Fela Kuti and the free spirit of the Art Ensemble of Chicago. Monstrously good, also in the interplay of composed elements and group-dynamic improvisation. "If You Listen Carefully The Music Is Yours" is their motto. The 42nd Jazzfestival Saalfelden will take place from 18-21 August 2022. You can expect a festival with about 60 concerts in the town, in the woods and meadows, musical walks in the midst of our beautiful mountains and of course some surprises again.
Green events, sustainable accommodation, cable cars that promote the idea of the environment, and a lot of social cohesion – the year-round destination Saalfelden Leogang has already been a pioneer in the conscious use of resources and in the development of forward-looking initiatives. New this season is a climate hike that shows guests the change in nature, stimulates discussion, but also offers hope. Anna Heuber developed this hike together with the Saalfelden Leogang Tourismik. New and Forward-Looking: The Hike “Nature and Climate in Change” “My motivation for the hike is to illustrate and communicate changes in our climate.” Anna Heuberger is 31 years old and comes from Pinzgau/Salzburg. She is a ski instructor and ski guide, a member of the Canadian Ski and Mountain Rescue, has explored numerous glaciers around the world and has studied alpine natural hazards as part of her studies. From her experience, she has developed a completely new and probably unique concept for climate hikes with the tourists of the region and is offering them to guests in the Saalfelden Leogang region new this season. Climate change and its effects on our society and environment have become an increasingly important topic for Heuberger in recent years. She believes that everyone needs to be aware of the fact that the climate affects us all. Extreme heat affects our daily lives just like severe weather. Anna Heuberger also has some good news for her fellow immigrants: “At the same time, we can all play our part in curbing the climate crisis and taking action to protect ourselves from the already inevitable consequences. Understanding climate change using glacier melt On the way on the climate hike you can see an avalanche glacier at an altitude of about 1,400 meters. It is not considered a glacier in the narrower sense, but its deep location and well-documented history make the Birnbach Glacier a symbol of climate change in the last century. It is often referred to in literature as the deepest glacier in Central Europe and this ice field has changed drastically in recent years. Using the glacier, Anna Heuberger explains the history, features and future challenges of the region. Along the way, she addresses topics such as rising temperatures and their impact on winter tourism, as well as the measures and adaptation strategies that are already being implemented in the region to manage resources responsibly. Anna Heuberger sees Saalfelden Leogang as a pioneer in diversifying the tourist offer. Entering into dialogue with different target groups with climate migration Anna Heuberger designs her climate hikes to be equally appealing to all ages. The trail itself does not require much mountain experience, but it also offers a lot of new features for experienced climbers. The migration is therefore adapted to the special interests and needs of the respective groups. Anna Heuberger wants to clarify: “Every hike has one goal at its heart: to illustrate climate change and discuss the effects of change.” More information about the hike, which is part of the region's summer adventure program: www.saalfelden-leogang.at/klimawalking Saalfelden Leogang: Ready!-Region even more initiatives for sustainability The aim of the Climate Change Adaptation Model Regions (CLAR!) funding programme is to give regions and communities the opportunity to prepare for climate change. Adaptation measures are intended to minimize the negative consequences of climate change and to exploit the new opportunities that open up. The programme was initiated by the Climate and Energy Fund, in cooperation with the Federal Ministry for Climate Protection, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology (BMK). In Salzburger Land, the whole Pinzgau is CLEAR!-Region, climate migration occurs exclusively in Saalfelden Leogang. It is one of the first measures implemented by the region for even greater sustainability and environmental protection. Numerous other sustainable initiatives: From Green Events to “Loigom hoit zomm” In addition to the new climate migration, there are numerous other measures that demonstrate the region's commitment to the careful management of resources. This includes the “green events”, of which there are more and more in the region. Examples of this are the UCI Mountainbike World Cup as well as the “Stoabergmarsch”, a 24-hour hike between Tyrol and Salzburg. What makes events “green”? Success factors include public access to the event, avoiding waste or using reusable cups, raising awareness among athletes and guests about the environment, and using local products. Leoganger Bergbahnen is a strong partner when it comes to sustainability: since 2006, they have been committed to measures to improve energy use and have been awarded several times for this. These include, for example, the recovery of heat from the lift engines to heat the adjacent rooms of the cable cars, the workshop and the mountain restaurant “Stocklamalm” and the conversion to district heating. A special initiative is the Austrian lighthouse project “Clean Energy For Tourism” (CE4T). This is about decarbonising the winter tourism industry. The power supply is optimized with state-of-the-art digitalization technology. For example, excess energy from the ski area is to be channelled into storage power plants and storage ponds to relieve pressure on the power grid and supply other businesses, such as spas and hotels. Last year, the Leoganger Bergbahnen dedicated themselves specifically to the topic of “waste separation” and implemented the concept from mountain to valley. This summer there will be a joint action of the bike community – once a month under the title “Clean the trail day” special reference is made to the topic. Social cohesion is also an important factor in sustainability in a region. How strong this is in the region is shown by the action “Loigom hoit zomm” (Leogang holds together). The association organizes quick, unbureaucratic help and professional support for all possible emergencies. This ranges from voluntary services to sustainable projects in the field of mobility, including the car sharing initiative LEO-mobil. Climate-friendly accommodation and regional products from the farm shops Sustainable night time? This is also the case in the Saalfelden Leogang region. Some houses place great emphasis on environmental protection and sustainability: biomass heating plants, wood chip plants or composting plants are available for the energy supply. The surrounding hotels take special care to avoid waste. Many companies and companies have already been awarded the Austrian Ecolabel for these measures. Since 2021, the Saalfelden Leogang region has been working as a pilot destination together with other destinations and under the leadership of the Association for Consumer Information on a certification for sustainable tourism regions. Sustainable enjoyment can also be wonderfully combined with a holiday in Saalfelden Leogang. Rich products from the region are available directly on site. They are also suitable as culinary souvenirs and thus a valuable holiday memory. A large number of farms directly market their products, such as milk, cheese or eggs. At the Stechaubauer-Biohof, for example, you can always find fresh organic vegetables – around the clock. From a self-service vending machine, you select your vegetables via touch screen and then pull them out of the corresponding compartment. Many farm shops can be visited with an e-bike as part of a bookable pleasure tour. Also restaurants and hotels, such as the Riederalm Hood Restaurant, offer excellent cuisine with products from regional direct marketers. Holidays without a car: By train to the most beautiful hiking trails in the region Travelling by train to Saalfelden Leogang is not only sustainable, but it also offers some advantages, such as avoiding traffic jams. There are fast and regular train connections directly from Salzburg, Innsbruck or Munich. Public transport to excursion destinations or stops where the hiking trails start is also completely hassle-free. For example, holidaymakers arriving by train and their own bike need only a few minutes from Leogang Station to EPIC Bikepark Leogang. It is the heart of the region and is one of the most prestigious bike parks in Europe. Guests can also rent electric cars on site or use all public transport in Pinzgau free of charge with the Saalfelden Leogang Card. The Tourism Association Saalfelden Leogang and the Leoganger Bergbahnen are also committed to sustainability when it comes to employee mobility. Mercedes-Benz supports the organisations with two EQVs. A partnership that plays an innovative role with electromobility and helps to reduce CO2 emissions in terms of individual mobility.
The route takes its hikers on almost 400 kilometers through six Pinzgau regions. From gentle nature trails to high alpine passages, the 15 stages offer everything the Pinzgau mountain world has to offer. The regions of Salzburger Saalachtal, Hochkonig, Maishofen, Viehhofen, Saalbach Hinterglemm and Saalfelden Leogang have united and launched the unique project of the long-distance hiking trail across the Pinzgau. Nomen est omen, because “hacha” is colloquially referred to as a long walk. And with its 393 kilometres and over 9000 metres of altitude uphill or as many metres of altitude downhill, on a total of 15 stages to be covered, the new “Pinzga Hatscha” has always earned this designation. Experience the natural and cultural landscape of Pinzgau on 15 stages Anyone who has already pulled the hiking map can guess that there are countless breathtaking mountain experiences waiting along the varied route. Whether in the midst of a landscape of stone and rock in the Steinern Sea, over green ridges on the Spielberghorn or with the power of the water through the Seisenberg Gorge - the "Hatscha" has everything that the local mountain world has to offer and is suitable for experienced long-distance hikers as well as for beginners and families who can choose a suitable stage for themselves. For the necessary strengthening, there are numerous managed huts along the long-distance hiking trail, which serve hearty alpine cuisine during a short (or longer) stay. Support by bus, train or gondola allowed! The “Pinzga Hatscha” can be experienced entirely on foot, but also with the integration of the summer mountain railways or public transport. This makes the mountain experience of a special kind possible for hikers of all levels.
