In the footsteps of the miners, visitors can immerse themselves in the past of the mining industry in the natural jewel of the Schwarzleo Valley. Guided tours of the medieval tunnels of the show mine provide an insight into the hard work of the miners and the treasures they mined, including silver, copper, nickel and more. As early as the 14th century, a system of hand-dug tunnels led the miners to their work underground in the Schwarzleograben in Leogang. Since 1989, part of the area has been accessible as a show mine, offering an insight into the history of one of the oldest mining operations in the country from May to October. Well-trained guides take visitors on a walk through an extensive mine workings. The adventurous journey through narrow tunnels takes you directly into the past, partly on foot and partly in single file, and provides an insight into the hard work of the miners who extracted silver, copper, nickel, lead, cobalt and mercury here. Young "miners" on the trail of the past In July and August, the show mine has a very special programme for young visitors: On an exciting treasure hunt, kids can follow in the footsteps of historical ore mining methods. After a two-and-a-half-hour exploration tour through the tunnels, the young miners will of course receive "their" treasure, as well as certificates and stickers. In addition, young visitors to the show mine can get to grips with the topic in a child-friendly way in the children's tunnel that can be explored and in the "miners' tower", a play tower with numerous mining elements. After letting off steam in the large children's playground, the "Knappenstuben-Brot" (miners' bread) from the mine's own bread oven provides the perfect refreshment. Leogang show mine: what, when and where? The Leogang show mine in the Schwarzleotal valley keeps its tunnel mouth open from May to the end of October, Monday is a day off. In May, June, September and October there are guided tours through the tunnels at 12 noon and 2 pm, in July and August from 10 am to 5 pm and by prior arrangement (groups). The treasure hunt takes place every Wednesday at 12.00 noon.
While visitors stroll around the small market and savour various local delicacies, local bands provide the right atmosphere. During the traditional Schuhplatteln or Schnalzen, some guests are left open-mouthed with amazement. Music groups such as LeRoXa, the Alpenkracher, De Drei aus Tirol, Krainerwind and the Alpentrio will be performing on five different dates between 9 July and 6 August this summer. Incidentally, "Hoagaschtn" means "sitting together and having a cosy chat" in the Alpine language - and visitors to the Sommer Hoagascht can be sure of that. There is also an entertaining children's programme for younger guests. All events at a glance: 09.07.2018 Village square Leogang LeRoXa and Anno1900 16.07.2018 Bockareitstube Saalfelden Alpenkracher, D'Weissbachler Saalfelden, Pinzgauer Oldtimerclub 23.07.2018 Knappenstube De Drei aus Tirol and Goasslschnalzer Leogang 30.07.2018 Zieferhof Krainerwind, D'Spielberger and Ranggler Leogang 06.08.2018 Klampfererhof Alpentrio and Aufwind Start at 19.30 in each case You are welcome to visit the Summer Hoagascht free of charge and without registration. ATTENTION: the events only take place in good weather - there are no alternative dates (with the exception of 9 July in any weather)! In case of bad weather, the event will be cancelled on the day of the event by 12 noon at the latest and communicated on the information channels of Saalfelden Leogang Touristik GmbH.
In addition to the opportunity to test next year's models and new products on the market with over 100 exhibitors in the large expo area, as well as numerous side events, there will also be a number of competitions for participants. The highlight is the Rocky Mountain Bike Marathon on Sunday, 2 September. For the first time, the mountain bike scene can look forward to a third BIKE Festival in autumn after Riva and Willingen, as the Austrian premiere in Saalfelden Leogang, from 31 August to 2 September 2018, will complement the well-known series of events this year. In addition to a large bike expo, where visitors will have the opportunity to test the new 2019 models free of charge, the festival programme will feature numerous top-class side events for young and old over three days. As usual, a number of competitions will also round off the programme: In addition to the SCOTT Enduro Series, the finale of the Austrian Pumptrack Series and the SCOTT Junior Trophy, the Rocky Mountain BIKE Marathon will also be the sporting highlight of the BIKE Festival in Saalfelden Leogang. Rocky Mountain Bike Marathon - register now! The starting shot for the supreme discipline will be fired on Sunday, 2 September at 7.30 am in the event area at the Asitz valley station in Leogang. Marathon participants can choose between three distances. The most challenging route is the long version with an altitude difference of 3600 metres spread over 97 kilometres. Here, some of the region's most popular mountain bike routes can be tackled in concentrated form: From Leogang, the route runs via Sonnberg and Ullachtal to Saalfelden, from there via Kronreith to Maria Alm and via Bsuch to Ritzensee. Then the Biberg awaits, from where you return to the Großer Asitz via the Panoramaweg. Finally, the long distance is spiced up with a detour to the natural jewel of the Schwarzleotal and the Spielbergalmen. And it wouldn't be a marathon in the trail paradise of Saalfelden Leogang if some of the most beautiful single trails weren't at the centre of the long distance: the new Matzalm trail is also on the programme here, as is the well-known Hangman2 from the Asitz, which was also part of the BIKE Transalp. On the medium distance, participants have to cover 74 kilometres and 2700 metres in altitude. And the short distance also demands a lot from the participants: 57 kilometres and 1400 metres in altitude are on the agenda for the "Shorty" in Saalfelden Leogang. Marathon series for the first time The premiere in Saalfelden Leogang has a very special role to play in the big Rocky Mountainbike BIKE Marathons, as it is the finale of the newly created marathon series. The results from Riva and Willingen and, of course, the third stage in Saalfelden Leogang count towards the overall victory.
Culture in the mountains is always a special experience. Classical, traditional and modern sounds or art have a completely different effect in the midst of nature, in the open air, than in concert halls and exhibition centres. The landscape virtually becomes part of the art experience. In Saalfelden Leogang, the contrasting nature goes particularly well with the various concerts and art events that take place on the mountain pastures throughout the summer. Tradition meets modernity: from children's dance workshops to classical clarinet music Concerts, legendary tales, a carving workshop and a dance workshop for children are all part of the ALM:KULTUR event series between the beginning of July and the beginning of September. Every Friday from 1 pm, hikers can meet various music groups and artists at one of six alpine huts. Always under the motto "Tradition meets modernity". The best thing about ALM:KULTUR is that you don't have to register or pay anything to take part in the events. All you need to do is hike up to the mountain pasture. Quite a few guests enjoy a great cultural programme by pure chance. Folk music and jazz on the zither The series of events begins on 6 July with a dance workshop for children from the age of three at the Seealm. Together they practise folk dances and dance games from Austria and other countries to the music of a live band. On 13 July, Gertrud Huber plays her zither at theÖrgenbauernalm in Saalfelden. Huber mixes works of alpine zither music with pieces from other styles such as jazz or contemporary music, a mixture that more than demonstrates the range of this unconventional instrument. The Salzburg acoustic rock band "Freebird" will be performing at the Riedlalm in Leogang on 27 July. The Hollerstauden, Clarino Alpin and a carving workshop One of the highlights is the "Hollerstauden" concert on 3 August at the Sinnlehenalm. The Pinzgau singing trio intones everything from folk songs to oldies and rock songs in their own special way and the three ladies don't shy away from - sometimes very funny - rewordings, turning the summer hit "Despacito" into the Hollerstauden hit "Des passt mir so...". Clarinet music to the power of 3 is offered by the trio "Clarino Alpin" on 10 August at the Örgenbauernalm. The three musicians teach at the Musikum Salzburg and perform works from the rich history of music, ranging from Bach to Reinhard Fendrich, and on this day the Saalfelden master carver Hermann Gruber will also be demonstrating simple carving variations for small and large amateur carvers. Gruber will be giving another carving course on the Steinalm on 20 July. Anyone who has carved an animal or object under his guidance can of course take it home with them. Mythical creatures as rhythm instruments and Australian folk and jazz Things get rustic on 17 August at the Steinalm when the "Saalfeldner Holzmusi" perform. The music group, founded in 1929, plays, as the name suggests, various rhythm instruments carved from wood - the only exception is the accordion. The individual instruments each have the shapes and heads of dragon-like mythical creatures. Such mythical creatures also appear in the stories of legend teller Hans Pichler, who will perform some of them live on 31 August at the Sinnlehenalm. They range from mountain maidens and "salty" women to special foxes - all from the Saalfelden Leogang region. The ALM:KULTUR will conclude on 7 September with the folk/jazz duo "Tim McMillan & Rachel Snow" at the Peter Wiechenthaler Hütte. Tim, the guitar virtuoso, and Rachel, the violinist, come from Australia and play a mix of jazz, metal, folk and Celtic rock. There are also funny stories from the Australian bush.
For the sixth time, Saalfelden Leogang was the destination of a very special long-distance hike last weekend. As part of the "Stoabergmarsch24", 110 participants took part in a 24-hour hike through the mountains of the Pinzgau and the Tyrolean lowlands in conditions that were not always easy. For the first time, the sporting event was organised as a "green event". Intensive hiking and a special nature experience in equal measure - that is the "Stoabergmarsch24". Last weekend, the sixth edition of this exceptional format was on the programme in the Salzburg/Tyrol border region. On Saturday morning, the 110 participants set off on a day-and-night journey across mountains, alpine pastures and villages from the Saalachtal valley in Salzburg via the PillerseeTal valley in Tyrol and back to Pinzgau in Saalfelden Leogang. Despite intermittent rain showers and low temperatures, the 55-kilometre route with an altitude difference of 6,000 metres and a finish in the Schwarzleotal valley provided the starters with captivating impressions as well as energy-sapping ascents and descents. The stage destinations included the Schmidt-Zabierow-Hütte and the Wehrgrubenjoch (2218 metres), before heading via Hochfilzen and the Grießener Almen to the finish in the Leogang district of Hütten. The hikers were accompanied not only by trained guides, but also by the burning fires of the midsummer celebrations: "This was certainly one of the most challenging tours this year, especially due to the low temperatures. But the group was very fit overall and everyone was happy at the finish line to have experienced something extraordinary," explains guide Markus Kogler. Long-distance hike was the first green event The "Stoabergmarsch24" has carried the "Green Event Salzburg" seal of approval since this year and was organised as a green event for the first time. The focus was on the possibility of travelling to the event by public transport, waste avoidance and the use of regional products. Stoaberg March 2019 - date already fixed Next year's date has also already been set for 22 - 23 June 2019. The start will be in Saalfelden Leogang, route details will be communicated early on the official Stoabergmarsch24 website: www.stoabergmarsch.at

The Saalfelden International Jazz Festival's recipe for success is not just contemporary jazz and experimental musicians who dare to try something new at a high artistic level. One of the annual highlights is also the two particularly good wines from Austrian cellars, which have been carefully selected for 13 years now. It is well known that wine enjoyment has to be learned - which is why the members of the "Club of Friends of the Saalfelden Jazz Festival" take on the honourable task of selecting the right wines every year. At this year's annual general meeting on 30 May, a barbecue evening was held at the Ritzenhof Hotel & Spa am See. The passionate jazz listeners savoured the finest wines from the well-known sommelier Georg Fürstauer from "Weinkistl". A total of eleven wines (five white wines and six red wines) were available to choose from, with the 2017 Pinot Blanc Classic and 2016 Nehro Cuvèe coming out on top against the strong competition. Every enthusiastic wine connoisseur has the opportunity to become a member of the "Club of Friends" and benefit from a variety of advantages, such as ticket discounts, numerous invitations to special events, advance information and much more. Saalfelden's local mountain will host the "Biberg Auffiradler", a hill climb for everyone, for the 6th time. The popular mountain run also takes place on the same day as the mountain time trial. Anyone who wants to take on a challenge in the midst of breathtaking mountain scenery is in the right place in Saalfelden Leogang on 30 June: The 6th Biberg Auffiradler awaits. Starting at the valley station of the Saalfelden summer toboggan run, participants will pedal from the Huggenberg inn up to the Biberg mountain inn. Whoever has the longest breath and the strongest calves at the end gets to lift the Biberg-Hirsch trophy. Admittedly, the tough 5.5-kilometre course with its 700 metres of elevation gain is a tough nut to crack. But even if the stopwatch is running: The fun of the sport comes first. That's why even slightly less ambitious mountain bikers have the opportunity to become part of the 6th Biberg Auffiradler in the separate e-bike individual classification. In addition, the different competition classes and the popular raffle with its valuable prizes will once again guarantee many beaming winners' faces. This year, the Biberg-Auffiradler differs from other hillclimbs in the country in one new way: for the first time, mountain runners and cyclists will start the race individually. Runners and cyclists will take turns to start the course in 30-second intervals. The first start will be at 4.00 pm. Registration is still possible until 29 June www.pinzgau-trophy.at - late registration is possible up to 30 minutes before the start.
